Day 02: Lookouts / Cruz del Condor lookout / Pueblos / Arequipa

Breakfast early in the morning

We will depart extremely early in the morning with the hopes of witnessing the flight of one or more (probably more) Andean Condors. We will appreciate the majestic flight patterns as they soar over the many green agricultural terraces far below them.

The grand Colca Canyon is about 3,400 meters deep and over 200 kilometers long. Over the years, it has received many agricultural treatments from the ethnic cultures of the Collaguas and the Cabanas. They carved out 7 thousand hectares of Andean style agricultural terraces along the side of the canyon for better usage of the natural resources. In the Colca Valley, there are 14 different pueblos all throughout that are full of color and life.

On the way back to Chivay, we will have the option to visit some of the other local points of interest. Places such as the pre-Incan hanging tombs, ancient Stone etchings, the lookout of the terraces and the typical pueblos of Pinchollo, Maca, Achoma and Yanque.

We will begin our return to Arequipa at an opportune moment in the afternoon, arriving hopefully at about 5pm.
